234 starting problem

I've had a problem develop this spring with starting my 234. I had a problem when I got it out of storage and blew a fuse after turning over a few times and some problems getting power after replacing the fuse (based on lights on the dash). I found what was loose ends on the battery cable and did eventually get it started. Now when I go to start it I get a click on the solenoid and the dash lights go out. I can come back later and have power to the dash but still only get a click on the solenoid. The clicking sound reminds me of a bad battery. Its a 12 volt system with a 2 year old battery. I get 12 volts on the meter when checking the battery. Can there be something else with the battery and I don't have any cranking power even with it showing 12 volts? I'm thinking about taking it over to NAPA to have it checked but can't get there until next week. Can I have a bad cell and still get 12 volts?

Just answered my own question - went out and swapped batteries and the tractor started right up. I guess the 2 year old battery had a short lift span.

Or the battery posts were just enough corroded that the current would not pass the interface between the post and terminal. Don't condem the battery till you charge it and try it with claened posts. I have seen that happen hundreds of times. Jim

If your battery only reads 12.0V, it is at around 1% capacity. A typical good battery will read at least 12.6V after being at rest for an hour or so. Fresh off the charger gives you a false high reading.
