T/A question

I have a 460 and a 340, both gas with the t/a out in low. Both tractors pull good in high. The 460 t/a try's to engage but slips. I have adjusted by the book and it still slips.
The 340 does not disengage. I pulled the top cover off, not much room in there, and the t/a clutch is free. It appears that the throw out bearing fingers are shot. It pulled 197% at the last tractor pull weighs 4600lbs and has 46 hp, and had the deere guys kinda upset lol. but because the t/a won't disengage, I was hung on the sled with a taught chain.

The question is, will I damage the high side if I continue running these tractors this way? I have heard both yes and no.

Thanks

The 'damage' is already done. Run it till it completely quits. It could take years,or could fail pretty soon. Not sure about the nonreleaseing part.A TA is really not that hard to replace. There is a video out there that tells you how.

Each has a different issue. As Delta indicates, they will not fail as is, notinng is changing, and they are both acting like a drive shaft through to the 5 speed trans. The one that tries to work has a bad sprag clutch in its rear end. Jim

You could most likely adjust the fingers so you could release direct drive clutch to make shifting out of gear easier. Maybe not good enough to use low side but just for shifting purposes. I have replaced pins on the fingers, but am racking my brains trying to remember if there is sufficient room to slide the fingers out with drive shaft in the way. I know I would try for sure.

there are only 2 kinds of TA's those already out and those going out. We eliminated all of ours as we had to have them apart. It should run a long time as said.
