hello, hope somebody here can give me some tips on how to line this cover up we have blocked the park pawl up but can't seem to get it to drop into place thanks for any help, Dick

OH ok , here ya go , When one removes the top range cover one must remove the rev. shifting fork cover on the left side of the case behind the left step. One must also make sure that the little key is in the rev shifting rod and since you are a novice at this also use to 4 inch long quid studs a good bright light and a long thin screw driver to align the shift rail . It also helps if you were born with three hands . As you lower the cover down you have to align the rev . shifting fork with the rod and not knock out the woodruff key . Now is a really good time to check the fit of the rev shifting fork and key fit . If the key is loose in the rod you will have a problem of getting into rev. , If one of the floating Tee's is broken off the shifting fork you will have a problem If the key way in the shifting fork is loose you will have a rev shifting problem .

We always just put the reverse fork in one position and set it down. I grease the roller that goes on the cam, so it doesn't fall in the trans, while putting the lid on. T.V. is right if there is any looseness in the reverse fork, or the pivot in the lid, you will have trouble with getting it in to reverse. If that pivot is loos in the least have it bored and a new bushing pressed in to tighten it up. If there is wear in the reverse shifting shaft notch it needs to be replaced also. That model is very finicky about that all being tight to work right.
We have been real happy with the conversion to the 56/66 series shifter for ours.
