Super M throw out bearing

It is not possible to get the pressure plate out, but I think the disk can be removed with wiggling, and the clutch shaft
removed, and thus the throwout bearing can be removed. Before committing to this, wait till D Slater or others chime in.

Yes it can be a messy job though. SM without the liftall in center housing easier. Implement cover or liftall needs removed. coupling at transmission input shaft removed and shaft to clutch. Take the clutch return spring loose and two bolts out of release bearing carrier. May also need to loosen or remove pressure plate bolts to get the clutch shaft down and out with release bearing.

In my opinion it would be easier to split it, then you can check the, disk, pilot bearing all the operating parts, easy access to the seals, etc.

I am guessing you could split it and add not much to the total time.

Exactly right. You can get the disk out but not pressure plate. Even getting the input shaft out (to get the throwout bearing) requires much contortion and is quite messy; lots of asbestos laden grease falling right in your face!

i would split the tractor, as that takes less than an hr. then you have everything staring at you without standing on your head . as if the brg. is bad then the rest needs attention too. those bgs. outlast last the clutch and related parts if they are greased. many people dont grease them.

Alright here is the whole story. :? I just got my Super MD back together with a new clutch and a newly installed clutch hold down lever. I was doing the initial motor heat cycle and between bleeding injectors and fixing leaks and watching for the thermostat to cycle, I realized I forgot to release the clutch. So I had the clutch depressed the whole 15 minutes or so and am hoping I didn't hurt the throwout bearing but was wondering worst case scenario if I could get by replacing it if injured without having to undo all those stinking fuel lines that suck to get all sealed up again. The motor and clutch are all new.

This is why I asked. Hopefully I didn't take much life out of it but remember always being told to not hold down a clutch for any longer than necessary. Maybe I should remove the clutch release lever I just put on.lol

Why not tell the proper story in the first place???

If you had it greased then what harm do thing was done???

Or did you not grease it???

At this point run it till it fails!

The throwout bearing has 15 minutes of life taken from it out of 2000 or more hours!! They are just a ball bearing in this
case and what you did was not worth mentioning. Who ever said that was ill informed. Jim

Just grease it and run it. Not anymore work to change it later than now. We had one in and 806 that for some reason we never even thought about greasing it. Went for 25 years without being greased. We since had to of course split it for that. We put a line to the bottom of the cover with the grease fitting sticking out the bottom.
This was an eception to the rule as we grease the fitting in the flywheel for the pilot bearing on our H.
