IH 484 throttle friction adjust?

Hi guys. the dash lever is slipping back to low idle. I looked at the linkage and tightened down on the big nut on the shaft (1 1/8") about 1/8 turn. not much improvement. wonder if I am going about this in the right way, is there something else involved? thanks in advance!! Richard

thank you sir!!i guess the jamb nut of interest is the one on the bottom of the shaft?

Yes. Stubby 3/4" wrench works best.

With the throttle in the "slow" position, get the wrench on the nut, then pull the throttle "wide open" beats trying to use the wrench under the dash.

Think I did the 495 by just removing the panel over the brake pedals (three cap screws) Easy job.

Yes. If you look up you should see the shaft and bottom nut. I had the ROLL PIN in that assembly break once..that was fun replacing.

I looked at the throttle shaft the other day. The bottom nut on the shaft has a cotter pin through it. I take it that that is the nut to be tightened for friction? thank You!!

Seems to me I did the bottom, think I had a lock nut, newer tractor so they might have changed slightly.

I have been looking at the schematic and the actual linkage, and they are not the same. The 'nut' on the bottom of shaft has a pin through it that could be removed, but has no shoulder like a nut that can be adjusted. The only actual 'nut' I see on the shaft is the big one on the top end that takes a 1 1/8 " wrench. I have tightened down on it a bit, but see no change in the friction applied. help please!!! thanks Richard
