What/Who are some good sources for used engine parts and other parts for a super MTA?
Heads, manifolds, sleeves, pistons, fenders, etc....
Steiner stuff any good? They appear to have a lot. Seems expensive.
I'm a Moline guy and in process of working on late grandfathers MTA I tracked down in Texas. Not a lot of experience with the red.
Going to be a fun one! It's stuck at present time, just starting to tear into it.
Manifold is junk, most valves are stuck. Rocker arm assembly very very rusty. Will be removing head soon...
Also, it's still set up on 6 volt. 12 volt would be huge advantage obviously, but will this hurt value of the tractor by changing over? Doesn't make any difference on the mm's unless you've got something incredibly rare.
Tractor supposedly has M&W pistons in it, but will know for sure once I get in there.
Engine is 264, correct? What is bore and stroke?

A 264 is 4in bore x 5,250 stroke, There are so many suppliers of parts yet, I wont even touch that one. A 281 is 4 1/8.

Plenty of places to find parts except some few SMTA parts only. Engine parts on this site and other places. Drive train parts have a lot in common with 400, 450 and some others. Good grill and hood at a low price is one thing that nothing else works. Grills do show up on M and SM once in a while.
Engine will have 4 inch bore pistons and sleeves or 4.125 or if M&W, could be 4.25 bore. If so that means the block was bored if the sleeves are still in. Sometimes a good used manifold can be found if not wanting to buy a aftermarket. 12 volt won't hurt the value for a big percent. Unless the hood is cut with a alternator hanging on the side.

No cut in the hood, has generator.
Grill is in excellent shape, not perfect though.
If pistons would be M&W and 4 1/4, how hard are replacements to find for those?
How much bigger could you go without worrying about water issues in the block?
If sleeves ok but pistons are not, (unlikely) but who knows, I would then just get new pistons.
If pistons and sleeves are no good, since I'll be in there and going to spend $$$ anyway, may as well go bigger, within reason.

If that's been bored and has 4 1/4's, in it, i am going to be surprised, was your grandfather affectionate for power, it's more likely it's got a M @ W stroker kit. A new 281[450] had only a 138 lbs of compression, so if you end up with more than that you have done good. If you want some bang for your buck, i would go with the hot cam,and lifters, for about $250, bucks, and a honest 6 HP, sounds good to me.

Haven't kept up on what's available lately. Don't know if anyone is selling 4.25 sleeve and piston sets that's not special order. Pullers bore bigger but no need for a regular use tractor. At this time most will have 4.125 bore parts in them. Just need to see what's in there.

Tractor has 4 1/8 IH fire crater pistons.
Got it soaking, hopefully break it loose one of these days and see what's salvageable to reuse and put back together.

If you put bigger than 4.125 pistons in by boring out the block, the rear end will not hold up to what the engine is capable of in a farming situation such as pulling plows. Think about the 560 rear end issues. That's essentially what you would be getting into. With 4.250 high compression pistons you would probably be in the neighborhood of 70hp or more. You could probably pull 4-5 bottom plows at that point.
That said, it would last forever as a tractor puller.
