battery question?

If it is up to speed. Have it load tested at a battery joint that will really load it up. Regardless of age it may be bad.

Simple answer is yes more then enough but that said I have seen many brand new batteries not worth much more then a core value. One example a number of years ago I picked up a brand new battery for a tractor I had just got. Put the battery in and it would not spin it over. Pulled the one out of my truck and that one started the tractor. Since I was on a bit of a hill I just roll started the truck so my wife could drive it home while I drove the tractor. Took the battery back and they tested it and it tested bad and it was new

(quoted from post at 09:38:04 04/26/16) I am using the Optima 6 volt battery in my Farmall M. It has 1000 cranking amps and 800 cca. Surely that's enough to crank a low compression stock M isn't it? Thanks, Ellis

Ya, plenty big. I missed that one when I was looking and have a group 2 in mine.

Advanced timing at cranking speed is a common issue. it needs to be at TDC static timing or it will crank slow as molasses. With fat cables and a good starter it will spin well. The starter could be dragging internally where the armature rubs on the steel of the field poles. It could have a shorted to ground field, and or shorted armature windings. A good starter shop will assess it. Jim

I put a new one in my H (6 volt). It would start maybe once or twice and then had to be charged. Starter is good with large cables, and clean and tight. Had it checked at NAPA and it showed full power. Went back to a NAPA regular battery and it starts fine. I have a 12 volt optima in a JD A and JD 520 and they start great.
