Farmall C identification help?

I confess to not knowing IH Farmalls as I have have Allis and Case. I helped a friend relocate his Dad's originally purchased FARMALL C from the family farm to his property. The seat toolbox platform is gone as it had a Knoebler aftermarket seat system and no serial number plate. Can the castings down by shifter platform or anywhere else be used to determine the year? I see from the archives that the C versus super C visual cues are easier. I am sure it is a C but need to date it? Thanks.

check the breaks, the C has band breaks and straight break peddles, while the Super C has disk breaks and curved break peddles.

(quoted from post at 05:43:35 04/25/16) Correct the cast codes will determine close to the week it was built

Thanks for the replys... Gene is there a reference for breaking down the casting codes.. The one on the foot platform I think is similar to 350011 give or take. I will be looking at it later when I visit.

That's a part number. You need to find the casting date codes.

They're in the form of a number for the month, an impression of a screw head, a number for the day, another impression of a screw head, and a letter for the year.

Month and date are normal. There are references for the letter year code all over the internet, but for a C:

R = 1948
S = 1949
T,U,V = 1950
W = 1951
X = 1952 (not sure if they made any C's in 1952)

There should be an engine number, stamped (NOT CAST) into the block, top edge, below spark plug #1, obscured by the governor control rod. It will NOT be the same as the original serial number, probably higher. But I believe it will be close enough to get you in the general time frame of the serial number.
