super c slow hydraulics and moaning pump

i have a super c that is having some issues. the fast hitch moves up and down very slow . the moan or whine of the the hydraulics can always be heard almost as loud as the engine. it has a new hydraulic filter last year, new case-ih hy-tran oil. what could this be? thanks

Original correct oil was something called "Touch Control Fluid," which as legend has it eventually became the original "Hytran."

I don't think "wrong" oil would be causing the problem. There isn't anything crazy in that system like wet clutches that would react to anything in the Hytran. Just some o-rings.

Probably what's happened is a piece of crud has broken loose and lodged itself in an orifice somewhere. You'll burn the pump up if you continue to run it as is. Need to pull the touch control off, tear it apart, and clean it out.

My Super C leaks oil from the hydraulic reservoir into the engine sump. It is slow leak, so I haven't tried to fix it. A few years ago it leaked down to the point that the pump would 'scream' on and off, whether being used or not. I changed the engine oil, drained the hydraulic reservoir, and used 10W30 motor oil in both the motor and hydraulic system. So far - so good. Occasionally I will drain off the excess from the engine sump.

Touch-Control fluid was developed by IH because of problems due to using motor oil in the Touch-Control systems. Why go back looking for old problems?

Back to the original question, before digging deep into the system as has already been suggested:

- Pull the battery.
- find the pipe plug screwed into the T-C head and remove it.
- From that hole, unscrew the next part, an orifice and screen.
- Carefully and thoroughly clean that part.
- Reinstall everything and test it.
- If that fails, pull the intake screen and clean it. It is under a 4-bolt cover on the side. (requires draining system)
- If both these fail, try the more involved suggestions already made.

I have three super c tractors i use dextron atf in mine and have for over 30 years. If a little gets in the oil it will help keep the engine clean. I worked at a ford car
garage in the 60's the old mechanics use to put a quart of atf in every overhaul job. Just my take.

Moaning is usually a sign of low fluid, cavitation due to clogged pickup screen or leak on suction plumbing.

You will be fine with Hytran, 30W, 20W, or most any other hydraulic fluid.

I do agree, running it this way will damage the pump.
