Super M misc

Went to a small tractor show today and was a little interested in a few things but no one was nearby to answer.

1 of the super m had some rear axles that on the end next to the tire had flanges exactly like the inner end that bolts near the seat. What is that for?

It also had a 3 pt fast hitch that was connected under the belly where swinging draw bar connected. This thing had all types of adjustments and was massive. Are these available anywhere. I really liked it as opposed to the bolt on unit I have that connects to axles.

1 also had both rear cast rims had been busted and welded back together around axle. In the area of the 2 bolts that wedge wheel to axle. I would not have expected to see one of those busted much less 2 on same tractor. How would that happen?

Thanks. Curios to know.

Here is a photo where you can see a little of the flanged end of the axle housing, and also this 3 pt fast hitch that had quite a contraption under the belly where it mounted for adjustment. It was all controlled by the lever there left of the seat.

Thanks

It's a super m tractor that was built to run a cotton harvester, those axles would have drop boxes bolted to them similar to that of a high crop. The serial tag would have coding in the serial number to indicate this. The fast hitch is off a 450 or 560 with the 3pt adapter.

Thanks Jim
I knew something else bolted there. Makes perfect sense.

I guess I'll begin to watch for a hitch off one of those two tractors.

I disagree with that, traction control handle that you drop your left hand, onto, i got two tractors, with two point hitch, when i am plowing with a 3 x 16 plow u can put that in any position u want to, it doesn't do squat. I was told its like a traction booster, doesn't come close for me. There are 5 notches in that handle. I have switched that from one extreme to the other, that ground wheel slip's the same in any position!

Fast hitch off a 400 will bolt right up I just saw a SMTA with one at a plow day with a 3 bottom fully mounted plow Looked and worked great

No a fast hitch off a 450 will the 400 hitch is different as it gas a rockshaft that is part of the trans cover. In order to use a 400 hitch adapters are needed. The hitch shown in his pics is off a 450.

In the picture ahead of handle on left side you can see a steel plate going to the axle housing bolt. SMTA and up has places cast into the transmission housing to mount hitches. SM doesn't and uses the adapter plates that are mounted on axle housing bolts, you can just see top part of left plate in picture.
Fast hitch without traction control used with a transmission top cover on a 400 or 450 takes more adapting. Axle plates different and adaption of lift anchor to transmission top cover. Also if used as intended another hydraulic cylinder mounted ahead of right axle and two hydraulic control valves needed if front cylinder was used.

Depends on soil and hitch on how good it works. With down pressure pin out front anchor and connecting link from it to hitch in good condition they can work. When pulling hard and the side link pushes the cam before front anchor reaches it's stop it will push the bottom of hydraulic cylinder anchor up to lift hitch. Higher the handle the more it pushes cylinder up as front anchor pivots back. If the hydraulic cylinder is lowered to plow depth when it pulls hard the pressure puts more load down on tires in some ground. Or the plow lifts from depth in softer ground or if traction is low in soft ground tires don't get more pressure and spin. In clay ground I need front end weight on some tractors when pulling hard the plow doesn't lift in the ground and enough pressure is put on the rear wheels to start lifting the front and plow wants to go lower then. Only trouble with setting cylinder depth for weight transfer to work is maintaining plow depth on uneven ground.

I'm not sure manufacturer but that is pretty much what I have. 3 or that bolts to axles with cylinder. I just really liked the look and clean attachment of this one.
