I have a md that has been sitting I got it to run perfect on gas
however it won't run on diesel not even any smoke I bled it by
the manual cleaned the water trap and installed new fuel
pressure gauge and has great pressure there were no fuel
filters in the Canisters and don't wanna waste the money on
new fuel filters till it runs I am getting no fuel to the injectors
What could be wrong?

Inside the pump is a rack that controls the amouny of fuel if it is stuck (won't move with the hand lever from the drivers seat) it can be freed with patence and solvent and patence. do not force it things will break. Easy effort, and solvent like lacquer thinner, applied with care. Jim

Jim the throttle lever does move like it should the piston shaft under the filler pipe inside injection pump is sticky and only moves few inches?

Either rack and plunger are gummed up or its in the distributor block and delivery valves. I would start by removing the plunger and soaking it in acetone for a few days.

disconnect the throttle lever at the pump. it is just a pin with a cotter pin. then move throttle lever on pump by hand , it should move about 3" freely. if hardley any movement like only 1" then the rack is stuck. that is the most common problem fron units sitting. just moving the throttle u will not know as you cant really see the pump lever and it has springs on both sides so the throttle handle will move but not the injection pump lever.

I did not realize MD starts on gas like the old WD9 we had on the farm, WAY back when I was learning to run tractors.
Any other IHC models start on gas and switch to diesel? Any other makes of tractor start that way? I know tractors were simpler back then but why did tractors start that way? I am not a mechanic, I can guess why, but you guys know why so explain history of this gas to diesel starting, was it an IHC Farmall thing? Thanks, I do enjoy the history lessons you YT guys provide.
