M and W hand clutch

We are working on a M that has the guts of an M+W hand clutch. Someone welded up the discs to get it to pull and did away with all the covering and handle. Any way we acquired almost nearly everything to put the hand clutch back on it. My question is this. Is the adapter plate that bolts on the tractor necessary or even called for on a straight m, or is this made for a Super M? I am in question over this because the M+W specs don't show this plate for an M but do for a Super. Also the housing cover seems to match perfectly the bolt pattern around the brake drum and chassis. The gentleman that the kit was bought from wasn't real familiar with it and didn't know what the differences for a M+w to a regular M and a Super. Thank You for any info on this subject.

On a original band brake tractor the adapter plate to use a band brake for the hand clutch on a original disc brake tractor is not used. Memory is getting dim on those but thinking there's a difference between the bull pinion and the shaft going in the differential gear on some.

You can get a manual from S t e i ner.

No special back plate for an M. Super takes that back plate & maybe different pinion shafts.

I do not remember is the cover is different.

It sound like you have a clutch for a super tho, and if so you will not be able to install it on a standard M.

If you only need the operating cam and such I think you can interchange those parts.

Also isn't the bull pinion outboard on a super???

That plate for the M&W super adds the clutch mounting plate conversion to band brake where the regular just replaces the drum cover.

You have to drop a bull gear to put the M&W on a regular M.

The M&W hand clutches are different between the M and Super M. There are some parts that are the same and interchangeable between the two, but the key components are different. The Super M hand clutch will also fit the very late production M that has the factory disc brakes.

I deal in M&W hand clutches and parts and I have one for a plain M right now, if you are interested send me an email krinne at windstream dot net

Kirk,I have most of an M clutch. However the disks are 'junk',and missing some key componets.Thinking of selling.I am also
thinking of removeing and selling the good working clutch from My SuperM. What are they worth?Frieght from Western Colorado
would probably be a killer...

New question about M & W clutch. I have a print out for this hand clutch from M+W for M and an H for both regulars and Supers. It is dated February 15 1985. Can someone tell me what item #78 is? Item #76 is the brake drum, I don't know what #77 is either, #11 is a snap ring, but what is #78?
Is it an oil seal or a bearing? My list is incomplete. If anyone can tell me what #77 and #78 I would appreciate it.
Thanks

For a disc brake M or super M 78 is a seal, 77 is special bolts to mount adapter plate and retain the bull pinion and differential carrier housing. Allen head or a thinner head than a standard bolt.

Re you trying to figure out what you bought or do you rally have a late disk brake M???

Some of these parts will not work on a standard band brake M.

I do think its a Super M kit but the tractor is a regular M but has all the internal components there. Im just trying to make everything from the drum out work. From what Ive seen in parts breakdown everything after the drum is the same. I hope so anyway.
