First time over hauling an engine, bare with me. I need to order the kit and have to specify main bearing size; standard .010 , 020 etc. ---- what is the standard measurement. I have looked everywhere for this measurement , no luck. My main measures 2.558..... What size do I order?

Thanks !

best advice i can give you, take the crankshaft to a machine shop, have them check it, polish or cut if necessary and have THEM get you the main and rod bearings. that way, you have the correct ones.

Look at the old rob/main brings. They should ne stamped as to what size. Old machinist once told me,"take a strip of notebook
paper and put it between the bearing and crankshaft. torque to spec. If the rod is tight, bearing is OK(provideing journal is
'clean'.)If rod is loose, regrind. This method is good for an inframe.Done that several time. The 'theory' is a typical note book
paper is .004. A typical bearing clearance is .002-.003."But Glen is right, the best way is to have the machinist measure and
order.BTW,if you dont have a book (service manual),order one NOW. There you will find torque specs, clearances(like the one you
just asked about) Capacitys, little 'tricks'....."Never Overhaul without one". Order from right here-YT. Steve

What Glennster and others said, do not buy ANY parts until it is apart, cleaned up and back from machine shop, then you know what is needed.
