Super C hyrdaulic question

Im a lurker and been seraching around for tips on here. I have pulled a Super C out of the shed after sitting for 7 years. It was my granddads he bought when he started farming in the late fifties, after he retired farming he kept and used it to grind feed for his hogs. After he died my dad started a slow restore on it, but that stopped after he passed suddenly. So I pulled her out, swapped the coil, rebuilt the carb and we're off..... So I have been searching through the hydraulic troubleshooting. I had to replace the rear lift cylinder on my Super C as it was pouring fluid, replaced the lines as well. I filled up the reservoir, bled the air and went to work. Then very quickly it crapped out again. I put two gallons of hydraulic fluid in it. I saw the leak across the front tire, so I cracked the petcock and oil was pouring out. So after looking on the forums I figured the drive shaft seal for the pump had gone bad as it sounds exactly what have happened. I pulled the hydraulic pump today and the seal "looks" good. Its a "newer" pump that my dad had put on before he passed. I'm kinda lost here on it. Is it the seal, despite it looks good? I've learned there are two different pumps for those C's??? so with that the pump I have has the pump "seal" not o-ring. So thanks in advance for the help...

Seal mite look good but is the shaft worn where the seal rides if it has a groove in it you will need a speedy sleeve for the shaft and a new seal make sure when replacing the nut that you bend the washer to lock the nut so it cant come loose.

The shaft looks good. All in all the pump looks good. But it's def loosing fluid as the reservoir is empty and I just got at least 1.5 gals out of the top oil stop cock.

Do what Gene says--you can't look at the seal and tell if it is worn, which it is. Any store that sells seals can cross the seal number, the brand of the pump is not needed.

Roger that, skip the speedi sleeve ?

hydralic block only holds 6 pints of fluid., 3 quarts,,,,,,,,try replacing the seal......good luck.......dewy

I am losing hydro oil into my crank case and my seal looked good too. Just ordered one from Napa. $8. Do yourself a favor and take the pump apart and drive the seal out from behind. I worked on mine until it was in shreds and could not get it out until I split the pump. My gear shaft looks and feels fine so I will try the seal and the sleeve after if needed

With out looking it up I don't remember the capacity of the hydraulics but it isn't two gallons, seems more like 2 1/2 quarts, might as well replace the seal and start over.

If you can't see the groove you don't need the sleeve.

Well guys the seal did the trick, $12 from a local Farmall parts guy. She's running like a champ now. Thanks.

Think I paid $6 from Advance for mine. I have not worked it hard yet, but everything seems to work as it should.
