Engine Serial Number

I have looked up the serial number for my H that is on the plate, I went to check if it is the original engine, but could not find that number.

If not below the #1 spark plug look to the rear of the block. If it is bare it probably is a different engine. You might also check the month/day/year on it compared with elsewhere.

It should be on a raised area like picture just above the side cover on ignition side. H should have letters before the serial number and also can or not have a letter and numbers after the number. Later engines in that family have the number about where the picture is but the H engine has it on the raised area toward the front on the same level. Sometimes the numbers get stamped low and the side cover partly hides it. Above the oil filter does it have a casting number 6695D?. Last letter will depend on time period made.
