I have a 1952 or so ih m .I use it to make hay I do have everything to make hay but a baler.I would like to buy a baler other a kicker so I can bale hay solo.do I need to add another port or remote to it to do so?

If the baler has an engine (self powered) you will have a real chance to make it work. An M hydraulic system will not make enough energy to toss bales. It would kinda
work if a PTO pump was used. THe issue is that the M has no live PTO and when throttled down to accommodate the windrow density, looses PTO speed. and when clutched to
avoid a sheared pin in the baler drive, stops the pump all together. To do well your baler should be self powered and have a baler powered kicker. or a 400 Farmall.

With no other helpers, there are three choices, Drop bales on the ground and have someone pick them up (help again). A self
powered baler, with baler powered kicker, and expensive wagons to catch them. or a different tractor with more power and
live hydraulics and PTO. I go with the bigger tractor. 400 450 560. Jim

If you're talking about a small square baler...

Kickers are powered by shafts and belts directly off the baler's flywheel, or in newer balers, by a hydraulic pump that is driven off the baler's flywheel.

You don't use the tractor hydraulics to power the kicker. The tractor hydraulics are used to aim the kicker, and an M's hydraulics have plenty for that.

An M is plenty of tractor to run a small square baler with a kicker on flat land with small (8x16 or less) wagons.

I don't know why the wagons have to be "expensive." If you're not fussy you can get old used wood kicker racks for under $1000 each. They may not be much to look at and may need some boards replaced, but you don't need fancy new steel wagons to get the job done.

yes I want to make small bales and I own two hat racks which I bought so I wouldn't tie up all my neighbors wagons but he bales it with his kick baler when he has time to do so. I would like to buy and run my own baler but debating what to get not knowing if my old m could handle it being has one hyd port and a releif valve.just wondering if I could add a dual port or remote to run the baler only baling a ten acre field for horse hay.

You said that the hyd on a kick baler lets you aim the kicker left to right using a hyd ram . Then can't I just hook the one hose that makes it fill the ram and when I want it to retract can't I push the handle in for releasing the hyd and retract it by hand to go the other way need be.
