Farmall Super C steering roll pin?

Hi,

I have a Super C that is missing the pin that connects the steering linkage to the gear assembly that turns the front wheels.
The steering wheel connects to a shaft, then several u-joints and finally at the front of the tractor to the gear assembly.
I'm currently using a universal clevis pin with cotter pin to join the parts together. During mowing, the pin usually breaks and I've got to reassemble things in the field.

I think that a roll pin was used originally.
Does anyone know if this is true and if so what diameter and length of roll pin is needed.
Also, any installation tips?
There isn't a lot of room there.

Thanks,
Mike

Bob,

Thanks for the part number.
Looks like the hole is very worn. The 3/16" roll pin slips right through.
I bought 1/4" and 7/32" - 7/32" might go in with pounding.
I'll have to measure it.

Thanks,
Mike

In a worn hole, the new pin will wear. Drilling through both shaft and collar to the next available size is best. Put a second roll pin inside the first to add strength and hold in power. Select the pin to fit inside the firat at the store. Jim

Thats why i told you to put a drill bit in the hole to see just what size it is now maybe when new it was a different size but now 60yrs later things have changed so back to just putting a drill bit in the hold to see what size hole is now.

I drilled mine 1/64 smaller than the correct roll pin size when I drilled mine out. I think I went to 3/16th. Also put a small drop of red Loctite on one end of it.

Get you a heavy roll pin and drill the hole a little smaller than the new roll pin so you have to drive it in tight and it won't fall out.
