Just depends on your personal preferance. If your looking for something that is going to last longer I'd go installing gear drive. Many people forget about certain tractors having a hydro and tow them anyways when they need moved. Thus damaging the hydro and needing rebuilt.

You cant just "install a gear drive transmission".There are a lot of parts that need to be swapped as well as the transmission.Speed trans/TA;Range trans;clutch;steering support;shifters.....The list goes on. You will need a complete donor tractor. At that point, cheaper and easier to buy a 966.Rebuild the Transmission. Herrs Machine,Washington KS has drop in exchange transmissions. The best route,as far as I am concerned. Call em.
