magneto to distributor

Is your Mag messed up? You will always get hot spark from a working mag. You can go to a distributor too. Just follow what the other guys have said.

As others have posted, yes. But I do want to ask why you want to swap it out. I personally prefer magnetos. Your tractor will run even with a dead battery. You can crank start it or pull start it or roll start it if the battery is dead. With a battery based ignition, if the battery is dead, so is the tractor.

Nothing wrong with battery ignition, just not my preferred choice on the letter series or F series tractors.........

My tractors with battery ign. start better when it is cold. I think the impulse gets stiff & doesn't snap as fast & weaker spark when zero & below. I use the crank on the Super C so the coil gets full voltage & have started it when it is too cold to be driving for long.

Teddy, I can understand that. Interesting enough, IHC indicated in their manuals, to lubricate the mags with cream separator oil, which is about SAE 10. However, in cold weather, they recommended using kerosene. you do make an excellent point, that if you have battery ignition, and hand crank, you are getting max input to the coil, and the best hot spark output for that type of ignition. People sometimes forget that the starter motor drain on voltage when cranking, does reduce the output of the coil in a battery ignition system.

I keep my mags lubed with 3-in-1 oil. I have not had impulse issues, but all my mags have been gone through, cleaned and adjusted (ie. coils, points, condenser, ect.) Mags are not for everyone, and that is fine. They are just my preferred ignition source.

Magneto is messed up, needs a new coil, and I do have a distributor that I got at an auction for almost nothing that's in real good condition.
