Need pictures. Those are just about the biggest handsdomest old boys there ever was.

Have you found a thermostat? I run my F-30 and W-30 without one. I don't work them too hard!

I read somewhere (Cannot find my documentation) that without a thermostat, just block small bypass on the side of the thermostat housing. Has anyone else read this? Maybe, one of the F/W-30 experts on this board can help.

Does it have a variable-speed governor? My W-30 does and it works better than my F-30 which has a constant-speed governor.

Did you ever find the radiator part you were seeking?

PS: IMHO, it will wound better without a muffler.

Have not even looked for a thermostat, I will just run it without one. I do remember reading about blocking or restricting the flow through the bypass when running without a thermostat. I will have to do a little searching and see if I can find that post. I did find the radiator parts I needed. This F30 is getting a non-variable speed governor. The governor was in pretty poor shape to begin with, the pivot holes in the weights were badly worn, pins worn, gear loose and wobbling on the shaft. But after making new pins and some other judicious machining, I was able to repair the loose gear issue and installed new bushings too.

If you don't run a thermostat it will go into bypass because its the least restrictive route. Even just idling around long enough can create enough heat to get the block too hot.

I make a circular plate out of aluminum and get the thermostat for a 350 chevy and put in the middle of it. pretty simple to do and have a working thermostat

makes me dance alittle jig.last one i got runnin i went to get off tractor to do alittle dance and hit my hip on rubber tread an broke the skin tru my jeans..that slowed my dane down...it hurt but still feels good to hear em runnin......slow down dewy

Saw a man hand-crank a F-30 at Harvest Fiesta at Fort Scott tractor show last year. Until then, I thought I wanted one. I mean, I'd love to have one. But it'd have to be electric-start.

A good F-30 cranks no harder than a good 10-20 or W-30.
If the engine is right, spark and fuel right, quarter turn up
will do it. Once its running on the belt and drawbar this aint your
daddy's F-20 boys.

why?... nothing hard about starting these tractors. wait till you try a WD40, now there's something to crank. but three pulls and mine is running. very easy to start.lol.
if they dont start good with a crank they are not tuned properly, just that simple.
any thing with a mag and hand crank will start easy.

id rather start my F-30 with 8k pistons in it any day of the week over that huge brute 22-36 I got. 421 cubes isn't much fun by hand

Agreed. Timing, spark, and fuel in sync will make for easy starting. Still a bit of a chore to start my f30 when sitting for 6 months to a year.

Kirk, I put a fender washer in the hose of the bypass, between the two cast pieces, fits snug and can't move. The small hole lets air bubbles and such through but sends most of the water to the radiator. It's seems to work fine, very easy to do. Just ground a little off the edges so it fit, has a 1/4" hole in it.
Since I already have mild hearing loss in my left ear, I'll run my muffler.

(quoted from post at 21:16:18 03/27/16) No muffler, please. You will ruin the beautiful sound of a F-30.

Sorry, she's keeping her muffler , I ran it without one when I got it running, The high comp. pistons, a little trimming on the head , and gas manifold this thing was loud. I plan to keep my hearing as long as I can.

Like the video. Can't wait until my F-20 or one of the Regular's can make a drive like that. I put together some steel front wheels for the Regular to match the back but not sure how much fun that going to be seeing how the F-30 keeps you busy. I was trying to see if I could recognize what part of the state you live in based on the surroundings and could not. Are you anywhere near Eastern part or Cass County in Nebraska?Cleddy

I am in the southeastern corner of Nebraska, in Pawnee County near the little village of Steinauer,

I hope the guy has ear protection! I remember when our old F-20 finally got a muffler. It a kind of celebrated occasion! But it clearly was too late to save Dad's hearing. I still have the cast-iron elbow exhaust pipe for it.

Kirk, sounding and looking good! I have been out on the road the past 4 weeks, and just got time to look at this. Are you bringing this one to the RPRU?
