Farmall M, Simple Question?

Question is, WILL a 1939 Farmall M NARROW FRONT END, bolt onto a 1952 Farmall Super M?

I got my new Super M today, and the Wide Front is not useable the way it is, and I am pushing to have the machine in a parade Friday night. I COULD get my good WFE put on it, but I don't have the time, and that would require me to do some pretty serious work removing and installing the front end, and it is outside. I am hoping I can just jack it up, drop the wide front, and then install the narrow front in 30 or 40 minutes.

Thoughts? Thanks!! Bryce

Awesome! Thanks!

I was also going to ask about the serial number on the new Super M. The model was "SM", but the serial number was F__8467__J (I honestly don't remember the number, but it WAS mid 8000's).

I asked the other night about the "J" designation on a SC, and I was told that meant it had come from factory with a Rockford Clutch. Is that true for the Super M as well? What does the F in front of the numbers mean? Thanks!

That front will bolt right onto an M clear up to 1256.And the 1256 front will bolt right up to an M. IH was good about things like that....

haha, I saw you post up on Tractor Talk and thought, yaaa.... he will be down on the Farmall Forum soon. . . ;)

Thanks Steve! Thats what I needed to know! ;)

Any imput on the serial number?

According to YT's sn list your tractor is a late 52. The F simply means it was made in Farmall Works.Whereas a 'L' would designate Louseville factory. As far as I know the letter suffix ('J' in your case) is the same for all models

Built at farmall works in june of 52. F-21074 was the first one built in 53 unless it was a diesel. Think all SM in that time period came with a Rockford clutch.

Bryce,

You may already know this but there is special bolt with an extended head on the tricycle models. It is a stop bolt to keep you from turning the front wheels too far. Make sure you have it and its in the right place. Don't know from memory if the wide fronts used it or not.
