Yep, its a Carter.

My personal opinion here. If you want to do something good for your tractor, toss that thing as far as you can throw it. I like the Marvel Schebler the best. The Zenith is a close second. Get one that has an all cast body. If they have any of the diecast bowls, you will constantly have a variety of issues. Cast will last forever.

never had a problem with the carter my dads 200 has one and I never taken it apart in the 30 some years I delt with it maybe drained the crud out and banged the side a few times

From what I have read that the Zenith carb will out perform the Carter carb. I have a B that came from factory with C engine and Zenith carb and has been a good carb.. One carb and several kits in the 69 years its been in family.

If you ever do need to work on that Carter, your opinion will change quickly.

I second that. Took the Carter off my 53 Super C when I overhauled it a few years ago. I use mine for mostly antique tractor pulling, along with rotary and sickle mowing. Putting a Zenith on in place of the Carter was one of smartest thing I did. Also got the enjoyment of seeing how far I could throw the Carter. Just my opinion.

Yea, they typically do run fine. But like yours, they almost always leak like a sieve. The internal leakage is probably what is making it run so well. The jets could be restricted, but the leakage is making up for it. Fuel metering in these old tractors isn't terribly sophisticated or difficult.

I had a Super C with a Carter on it several years ago. I spent the better part of a week after the rebuild trying to get it to stop dripping. I had it apart probably 40 times that week. Kept trying to detect the source of the leak and kept adjusting float levels lower and lower. Finally, I got it to where it only just would run and it still leaked. At one point, I even thought the gas was leaking through the pores in the bowl. So I tossed it 20 yards into the ditch and installed a Zenith and it worked perfect from there on out.

Tks for your reply Gab. As far as i know the manifold is original. The tractor was my dads from new and I never remember a manifold change. Yours looks hi performance.
