Hello, I have two Farmall 706 diesels, both have the D282. Both tractors have serious problems and I'm thinking of making one from the two
and I'm looking for some input so I don't get halfway through and find out things don't fit.
First, the two tractors. The 1965 has a decent running engine, working TA, good 3 point, working PTO's, but has a cracked front bolster
(welded and working but weeps a little), and the rear end has serious issues (howls in higher gears, and the pinion shafts are loose like the
bearings are bad, also the splines where the brakes ride is badly worn). The 1966 has a horrible engine, good front bolster, unknown TA (too
much play in the linkage to make it shift), fast hitch, working PTO's, and the park brake won't hold under a heavy load.. Both tractors seem to
have all of their gears and ranges but (not surprisingly) shifting is an issue for both.
So I was thinking of taking the bolster from the '66, the engine and TA housing (which also holds part of the transmission?) from the '65, and
the rear end from the '66, and the 3 point from the '65 and assembling it together. First off, will this work? Is there a better way to do it? Thanks
for the help, Sam
