IH 574 Hydraulic Leak

Hey Guys,

I recently purchased a IH 574 diesel tractor and I took it out for her maiden voyage this past weekend. The tractor runs great except for a hydraulic leak.

This hydraulic leak only occurs when I have the tractor hooked up to something like my hydraulic dump trailer. The leak occurs when I'm bringing the dump trailer down and not up. The leak is coming from the back of the valve assembly. When I checked the transmission fluid dipstick it is overly full.

I was wondering if this is simply a matter of their being too much hydraulic fluid in the tractor or could it be a bigger problem?

The valve that I am talking about is best seen when the tractor seat is off. A few of the pictures are taken looking from the top down and looking towards the back of the tractor

Thanks in advance .

Hi Shawn,
Does your dump trailer have a double acting cylinder? ie two hydraulic hoses or a single hose?
If it is a single hose, unfortunately the remote hydraulic valve on a 574 is double acting only and if it is used on a single acting cylinder. When the dump trailer is lowered the high pressure hydraulic oil from the unused outlet has to trip the relief valve and bypass via the relief valve. Therefore the pressure on the unused outlet is about 2500 PSI and that maybe causing the hydraulic oil to leak past the O-rings on the spool in the remote control valve. If it is a single acting cylinder try putting the hydraulic hose in the other outlet and see if the leak still happens.

Hey Jim, the dump trailer had a double acting cylinder. I'm beginning to think its a bad o-ring.
