collectable IH tractors

Prices only reflect what some IDIOT is willing to pay for any given piece. And as long as some one is willing to pay for bragging wrights then the prices will reflect that. Just like old MUSCLE CARS , why would i pay 40 grand say for a 68-69 Road Runner that has been hacked back together to some idiots idea of what they were like when new because some bozo said this is how they were and really never owned one or worked on one when new , When i had one when new and worked on them everyday as my JOB and my brand NEW one only cost me 2100 an change and got 1100 for my cream puff 61 Rag top . First car i bought the wife before we were married was a 67 Mustang Convertible 302 4 speed posi i gave 425 for it and put a couple hundred into it . Now they want how much . Even if i hit the lotto i would not pay the price.

Somewhat like The Tractor Vet indicates. There are areas in the world where people are very much into the rebuilding and display of antiques. and other areas where they are basically ignored. A truly rare desirable tractor will increase as time goes by. A UDLX MM ia an example as is a SMTAD V. A desirable tractor might not. A 350 High Utility might be an example. Jim

There are a few people out there that will pay any price for a particular tractor for their collection, elsewhere it is way down on price.

I see the recent trend as not really going down, but simply changing to the more modern models.
I used to see mostly Letter series & F models at shows, now you are seeing more modern 460 / 560 series up through the 806 / 1206 era. Lately I see many fixing up the 66 series & Hydros.

Seems as though you think someone with money and does not spend it as you would is either a bozo or an idiot.I most likely do not agree with those folks on their values, however I cannot get the connection to their intelligence quota .

I would think any IH tractor would be collectible to someone. You see more and more 06,56,and 66 tractors being collected. I myself don't understand why anyone would want tractors that new.

I have no use for hi crops, orchards, or industrials. What I like are the plain old Farmall letter series that I grew up around. I would much rather have a nice stright super M than a OS-6 or 1206.

Well there are less farmers , therefore less people that grew up on tractors, and less collectors to buy them.

You must be 100 years old then. Those tractors you mentioned that you wonder why people collect are 40 to 60 years old. That qualifies as old in my book. You said you like the letter series because you grew up around them. Lots of farmers including my old man grew up around the 06/56 or the JD 20 series. So guess what? That is why some people are collecting those. In my collection my oldest tractor is from the 20s and newest from the 70s. And I have a 1256 but there is no way I would trade it for a super M.

A retired farmer over the hill from me had some nice tractors collected, a Smta gas and diesel, 350D, 1256? looks like new, 4020 and maybe a 4840 plus some more that I haven't seen. These all had new tires and paint. He fell on the ice last winter and broke his neck I think, only lasted a couple days after that. Anyway I heard last week his wife is having a auction the end of March. I might leave my check book home and go see what those tractors bring if the weathers nice.

Seems like today's "Collectors" only want electric start. Nobody wants to crank a tractor. What's next, only tractors with air conditioning?
