I have a 300 Utility that I've had trouble with the PTO turning with a load on it. We've taken the top off the transmission and the pin was lying in the bottom. Luckily it does not appear that it damaged any gears but the pin did have a few scraps/bruises on it but did not appear to have significant damage to it. It did not appear to be broken and appeared to just have fallen out. My question is what holds the pin in place (press fit?) and how could it have just fallen out and not be broken? Is the repair simply to replace the pin? If so, what should I do to keep this from happening again?
I think it was DSlater that suggested it might be this pin that secures the PTO to the countershaft.
