So I have a 706d with a 282 I removed all the
glowplugs and all but one went in fine. The last one
went down but about a 1/4 inch before the threads it
stops. The old plug looked like nothing broke off
and the old plugs fit in but the other new ones
wouldn't ? What can I do I just put a old one in that
works for now

I did and it fit in others and the one from the other hole didn't also didn't fit in the hole

Well the old ones thread just fine but the new ones don't go down far enough but the other 5 holes the new ones fit fine

You need to run a thread chaser or tap in the hole. fill the grooves in the tap with grease so you don't get any metal particles in the engine.

use a good LED light and a borescope or magnifier to look in the hole. Reality is often a mystery until looked at closely. Jim

It's usually a carbon buildup at lower end where tip of glow plug goes through nozzle holder. If you look at your glow plugs, you will also see that they seat and seal on the tapered end of the glow plug(the metal , not the part that gets hot) and not the threads. If that wasn't sealing good, you could have carbon all the way up to the threads.

side note:

I found a cool little boroscope that I bought as a stocking stuffer for my son. It was $15. It plugs into his smart phone.

I didn't expect a whole lot for fifteen bucks, but now that he's got it I'd say it was money well spent.

Surely the more expensive units are light-years ahead in form and function, but - it does what you want it to, lets you see in small places.

Worth it since it was such little money.
