560 Diesel engine question

Good morning,

I have a 560 diesel. The engine has been completely overhauled. After that tremendous pressure builds in the radiator blowing the cap and sometimes the upper radiator hose. Since then we have replaced the head and it's gasket. We still have the same problem. There is no water in the oil or oil in the water.

How can I better diagnose the problem? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance

Try a new rad.cap if you already havent. How about the water pump.

What happens if you leave the rad.cap loose or off?

Are you getting compression into the cooling system? Look in rad. and see if there are bubbles when running.

My 2cents

Do a simple test. Remove belt from water pump. Fill radiator to very top. Start engine and watch to see if coolant rises. Don't worry about looking for bubbles. If it rises you know you have a combustion leak. Most likely due to excessive sleeve flange height. You can do a cylinder leakage test to pin it down.

so , before overhaul no pressure buildup, o/h engine and pressure build up. so do you have a thermostat in it? if so is it in correctly?not upside down? do you have the correct head gasket? it has to be something you did. with a plugged rad or bad waterpump that problem would have been there before o/h. did you compare head gasket to the original one you took out? is the coolant circulating before the pressure build up? appears as a blockage someplace.
also when is it doing this pressure build up? sitting at idle, or working the tractor? can make a big difference.

It sounds to me like your pressure cap is defective, expansion will cause pressure will rise to infinity if not relieved.

had the same thing happen to me took it back apart finally figured out that there was crap in the head bolt holes cleaned it out real good put it back together no more problems that was on my 560 my wifes uncle has a 706 he bought it kept blowing head gaskets had him clean the bolt holes and no more problem that was about two years ago

Hook an air supply into the glow plug hole or spark plug hole, with piston at top dead center compression stroke. Should use regulator to increase pressure gradually . There are leak down gauge set ups that use two gauges to determine percentage of leakage but for checking leakage into cooling system you don't need that.
