Machining Farmall 300 head... How much is too much?

I was wondering if anyone had experience with putting a Farmall 300 head on a H. I want to machine it down to get some more compression. But don't want machine too much off. Do you think 1/8 in is too much?

Nothing is as disappointing as running into a water jacket on a valuable casting. taking off .080" or maybe .100" seams possible. Compression gain through piston choice is satisfactory and less "dangerous". Remember it is not a 5 main bearing engine. Jim

Changing pistons buys you much more compression than messing with the head, just take enough out to ensure it is flat.

I believe any more than what is required to true it up is too much.

Once you've put high compression pistons in you are chasing diminishing returns for the effort.

If you are making a super competitive pulling tractor that runs good fuel that's one thing. With a work tractor I wouldn't push for every last bit of compression. I want some margin for high loads and high temps.

Ya want to make pony power then pull the sleeves and BORE it to take a stock 806 gas piston and make bushing up to fit the connecting rod , Then have the cam ground for where you want it to run. then put a m-450 cab on it along with bigger intake valves and open up the intake ports a bit . Leave the head alone except for a truing cut.

Yes, 1/8" is TOO MUCH! Don't machine any off the head other than what is needed to get it flat on the surface grinder. You would be FAR better off using domed pistons to get more compression!!
