hay y'all, i picked up a pair of nice ih seed hoppers on black Friday

the plates have CIX-16 marked on them, the hoppers have seed corn in them

the question is what type of seed and are the side drop or flat drop.

the last corn i grew we used Funks yellow dent.( G5820) BUT THAT was a long time ago. I still want to plant Funks and my locale feed & seed will get it for me, already checked.

will these plates work on yellow dent?

also, any suggestion on what plates i need for Blue Lake bush beans.

Years ago there were many different sizes of seed in the flat and round shapes. Using the wrong plate will result in doubles if the cell is too big for the seed or skips if the cell is too small for the seed. I once found a plate with the right sized cell for the flat seed I had but I neglected the fact that the plate cell was too thin for the seed so the seed stuck up above the plate just a bit. I ended up with plenty of skips in the stand when the corn came up, not good for the yield in the fall. It was impractical to have plates for every seed size on hand so I bought seed that matched the size plates I had and every other farmer did the same thing I did. I have over a hundred old IH plates hanging up in the barn even though I got rid of the plate planter a good twenty years ago. I just can't destroy those plates because it took me so long to accumulate a good variety of plate sizes.

Bass,

Go to http://www.lincolnagproducts.com/index.html

Lincoln Ag is the source for the plastic plates and the info is on their website. The "C" is the IH, "1X" is the plate number and "16" is the number of cells. "Corn: Round; Plate Color: Orange; Dimensions: 34-20-20" The "34-20-20 " is the cell size. 34/64ths long, 20/64ths deep and 20/64ths thick.
