I got a 806 that does not want to start if it is not on the charger for a couple hours have had the batteries tested and they are good I am thinking of putting two 12v batteries in would it help or is it the starter that needs some work

Two 12s wont help.Check cables and conections.Take starter to a shop to get tested/rebuilt.Is the gen/reg or alt bad and back flowing running down the batterys? My guess is a worn/draggy starter.

Check ALL connections from batteries to starter. This
includes the strap from the solenoid to the starter
itself. Don't just twist/ pull at the cables & assume
the connection is good.

Take the cable ends off & look at them closely. The
1066 had eaten inside of the cable lug on the solenoid
to the point that it wouldn't start. It was still a
solid connection, but eaten away inside.

Use 2 star washers---one on each side of a lug if you
find trouble. That firms up a bad connection.

Check for current draining from the alternator by
removing the "hot" wire from the back of the alt. &
put an ammeter in the circuit with the engine off.

I got to go with Delta, on this one,I bought a new 806 D in 1967, still have it,But never had the starter off,Just one big 12, is all i use, i made a special holder for it on the right side of the tractor. Starts about the 4th time up.
