Can a Hydro 70 tractor be built into a gear drive tractor by using the center section, dash, linkage etc from a donor machine ? There is one in my area with a bad hydro.

If you had a complete 666/686 with a bad motor,I suppose you could make one good tractor out of two. However,I think I would try to get the Hydro fixed.A Hydro is the best thing since sliced bread!.

I couldn't say. Is there not some differences in the way they drive and gearing that alters that without changing at the clutch?
As for the sliced bread thing, I guess I missed something there. All the hydro's I have known about around here were like a 60 series rearend. Always needing work. Nobody kept one very long before they either put a ton of money into it, or traded it due to that fact. I would think the idea would be great for balers, loaders and mowers.

Red you will have a life time job to do that. I don't know if the rear end gears are the same, you would have to flip the ring over or you would have five reverse and forward. Much changing to do.

The transmission does not have the gears in it for reverse and other speeds. The Hydro only has a direct drive high speed and a low speed gear set.
