340 Farmall Tachometer Gear Replacement

Hello all!
After getting the 340 running I noticed the tach just bounced. Took the cable loose at the distributor and spun it. Tach worked fine. Figured, after reading posts here, that it was the gear. Sure enough, it was stripped.

Couple of questions.
1. How do I get the gear out of the housing to replace?

2. Where can I get the best deal on a new one?

3. What maintenance do I need to do to prevent this from happening right after I replace the gear? Cable SEEMS to turn fairly easily. Tractor has been sitting a LOT in the last 15 years.

Thanks!

Should be a flat metal retainer in side of shaft housing in slot. Remove it and pull gear out. Unless it has crude on it the retainer will fall out most times.
Free turning tachometer and cable with gentle bends in cable is about all you can do to keep from happening except keeping lube in the gear cavity.
Think that's a dealer only item new unless someone started reproducing them. Part # 369695R91. Around 80 bucks.
