The 986 makes a noise when you step on the brake while turning. I can hear it more when turning left than right. Sounds like it is coming from
the wheel, can't be sure. Any ideas? Thanks DTK

My first thought is loose wheel clamps. look first if any shiny spots are showing at the rim clamp contact points. If in doubt, put a dab of nail polish on them and drive it after it drys hard, if the polish cracks, it is likely loose. Jim

I agree. That left wheel center is loose. When you step on the brake you are taking it from pulling torque to pushing torque (the ground is trying to keep that wheel rolling with the tractor momentum). Look at it carefully. Movement anywhere in a wheel equals breakage when you least expect (or want) it.

ahnks guys I will jack up wheel and turn it over and see if it is loose or makes noise. What about bad brgs om axel or bull pin ions? Any experience on 986s? Thanks DTK.

Lifting it up will not assist in finding the looseness. It will help when tightening the bolts. Check for looseness as described. If unsure and you wish to tighten the rim to wheel, lubricate each bolt and turn it looser exactly three turns, then lubricate the exposed threads and tighten to the three turns and loosen again with more lube. This allows a final tightening one flat at a time on each bolt. Do not loosen them all up at once, just each independently. Count the flats of the nut tighter on each bolt to assure even tightening beyond the original place they were located. This process is to assure the continued "centredness" of the rim on the hub.
