I am working on a c-157 gas engine that has an oil leak between the rear of the block and the bell housing steel plate. There is a open passage at top left rear that looks like the machine shop left a plug out of when they sent it back to be assembled. The parts diagram does not show what goes there. The passage is about 1/2 inch and is at least 8 inches deep. Can anyone tell me what is missing? Thanks,Mark.

No,it's not a dowel=they are all there where they belong. The bellhousing mounting plate covers this hole.Mark

Got a photo?

Is the hole threaded?

The parts breakdown calls for 2 sq. socket head pipe plugs, 3/8" pipe.

The hole would be a little larger than 1/2", though, the tap drill size for 3.8" NPT is about 9/16.

The plugs are listed in the parts breakdown I posted under Key #2, the crankcase and the individual parts to complete it.

IIRC, they are two completely different blocks, the 153 being based on the 113 that was used in the early A's, and the 157 similar to the sixes in a 560, etc, with two less cylinders.

Hopefully, someone with a lot more knowledge than I in that area will add to that or debunk it!

Thanks Bob,that is what is missing-one of the 3/8 plugs. It goes in the passage above the oil pressure relief at 90* to the rear.We got the plug ordered.Mark
