M Followed Me Home

Not too nice, bought it from a friend's father sight unseen ($500) but it is complete, came with two nice fenders, nice hood, grill needs a little repair, and extended pedals, never seen that before. It also seems to have a factory Lift-All delete with the cast iron belly cover. I thought those had the cultivator mounts like the live pump covers.

Darn Farmalls anyway, when you buy one and give it a good home, the word gets out and they all want to come to your place.

Only the stage 2 SM tractors with engine driven hydraulic pump came with mounting made with cover. Good luck with tractor.

ya, they follow you home, then you take care of them, but it seems that you just cant ween them. always wanting another can of gas....kind of like my truck

remember tractors are like watermelons: keep the red, throw away the green.

The green one looks like an M set up for propane. I've seen more than one M painted John Deere green. Don't know if there is a real reason for it or just someones idea of a joke.

Green one looks more like a 300 - 350 utility to me. It has the full length hood sides with insets
and eye ball hole nose grill. I'm only viewing it on a phone though.

The green one is a factory LP 400, with an old style link in front wide front. It was that shade of green when I got it, and it's an old paint job. I think it might be US Forest Service, it is that shade of green. It's got a lot wrong, I'm thinking about parting it out. Guess the LP head is worth something.

The yellow one is an O-6. Cast frame front wheels and all, just no orchard fenders. It came out of Kansas, could have been a city or county mower but I'm guessing there. 39 M with a Farmhand loader sitting next to the 400 doesn't like being next to green.

I've wondered about the pedal extensions. Maybe a short wife, the pedals felt ok while I was sitting on the seat but I couldn't reach the brake lock with my foot on the brake. Cutting and welding is kind of permanent, as opposed to bolting wooden blocks like some have done. On our farm you just jumped off the seat and stood on the appropriate pedal when you were short in the pants, so maybe a short farmer or wife. The tractor has a murphy safety switch on the oil pressure so it may have been used on an irrigation pump with the low oil pressure kill switch, but I couldn't figure out if the pedal extensions had anything to do with that. You do get more leverage standing on the ground setting the brakes.

(quoted from post at 22:02:13 11/15/15) Darn Farmalls anyway, when you buy one and give it a good home, the word gets out and they all want to come to your place.
I dunno, Hayfarmer. All the equipment here I had to pay "bribes" to show up, often excessive at that, and then they start making demands, like "fix me", which I do my best to do. I'm running out of sheltered space for what I already have, but would be hard pressed to say no to another Farmall if it stopped at the mail box.

How long do I have after fixing a couple to work good and look 'better' before more start lining up at the end of the driveway? Not that I'm wishing - I'm more worried about what the other half would do (she wants one of her own, and one may not be enough). I'm going to have to get another job...

Andy Martin, you look to be an M magnet. If'n I was a lot closer, I'd be trying to talk you out of one. I'd even take on an LP 400 with problems. How bad can they be? :D

Well Worn: M's are a nice size and I farm with them. Out of 13, five are in excellent shape, another three need minor work, and the rest are potential parts tractors, but I hate to part one out. Also have two M's that were in a fire and a couple of partial parts M's I bought with the SMTA. I really need to get my SMTAD up and running but the shop space is occupied by a 450D. The 400 LP was running just before I bought it, but they gave up trying to get it started and I haven't had time to mess with it in ten years. PO had a separate fuel tank on it, so the factory tank may have an issue, or just a leaking valve. Three remotes but apparently there was water in the hydraulic reservoir because it is split open. It is fairly complete with spin out rims.

Andy, you tempt me. Good thing you're in OK. If you were in OH, that might be too close to resist a visit, at least.

Currently planned next 'followed me home' is another SA/100/140 (locally), because the one I have is nigh unto death due more to inherited problems and need for frequent use than lack of desire to replace everything yet to replace lower than the gas cap. But again, would have a hard time saying no to any other Farmall, especially if the price was irresistible.

I want to think that extra L. P. tank could be plumped in as a reserve tank to get you home after a long day in the field (if so a very much needed upgrade!) Check the plumping to see if there is a three valve connecting the tanks together. I know how to plump two gas together but not sure about L. P. tanks. Let us know what you find! Armand

Armand: Good call! I traced the add-on hose and it goes to the liquid/vapor filter under the tank, a tee on the discharge side. Thinking about it, they probably had no way to fill the tank at home and used the portable bottle as primary, but the tractor tank is still hooked up, but no valves.

They had a tall lp tank on the front, 100# maybe.
