756D w/dual PTO/ The PTO will not engage from a cold start without significant engine speed--then engages suddenly and fully resulting in a sudden forceful "jerk." After the PTO has been used awhile it engages normally. Also, driving along at perhaps half speed or more, with the lever in the neutral position, the PTO engages. Any thoughts or conclusions?

Check the operating pressure.

I'm gonna GUESS leaking rubber seal rings in the clutch operating piston.

well my guess would be a loose pick up tube and a bad seal to start with . also add and extra five gallon of hyd oil . That may help as it should bring the oil level up to the top of the pick up . I am just guessing here as i am not there to look and check myself and put a gauge on it .

Thanks guys! That gives us a couple of things to check. We will be removing the PTO assembly because we have to replace the 540 shaft.

To remove the 540 shaft you will need a clutch pack spring compressor . To set or check pressure you need the special test fitting and a hyd gauge that will read 600 psi . set pressure at 230-245 . Install the hd clutch kit . Be carefull not to damage the pick up tube when removing and reinstalling the unit . GET A BOOK.

Thanks, T vet. We've had these PTO units out several times before to replace clutch packs, etc. Just never had one behave this way before. Do have a book.
