Greetings, I have a 656d with a 282 that all of a sudden while going up hill started to miss bad and blow black smoke. Got her back to the shop, but was wondering if you had any ideas of what let loose or what may of happened and where to look first. No fuel in the oil that I can smell and the radiator antifreeze still looks fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated

I am not familiar with that engine, but it sounds like an injector/fuel nozzle is over fueling.I would crack (loosen) each injector line, one at a time, while the engine is running at idle.Crack a line, listen to to engine change-it will miss on good cylinders, and not change on the bad (missing) cylinder. In your case, the smoke should also clear a little when you crack the line on the bad cylinder.Replace the injector on that cylinder.I always paid attention to the amount of fuel that sprays out when I loosen the lines, just to see if there is any difference from the pump.Be careful, the fuel is under a lot of pressure.Do not use the tractor until you get the over fueling fixed=it can melt a piston if you run it too long!
