Local, long time IH dealer has an 886 for sale. Dealer sold and has serviced this tractor since new and owner is a known local farmer. Tractor looks to be in excellent condition and has had a new injection pump installed. Tractor has 7700 hrs on it and excellent rubber as well. What are the good and bad points of this model ? Never had anything IH before. Thanks

What's the asking price?86 series IH are good tractors.I have a IH 686 with the international 312 diesel. My 686 is similar to my 656 but with a much better engine.886 shares alot of similarities with the larger tractors.

My sons have been looking at this tractor,I have only seen it from the road. I believe they are asking $14000 Canadian. That may seem high, but we are plagued by the weak Canadian dollar and even used equipment reflects that weakness. I'll inquire which engine it has. Thanks for your input.

Thanks Mark. This dealership has been in business for over 60yrs and are usually pretty proud of their inventory. We'll see how it goes as we are still just looking. In fairness, I must say their back shop is the best in our county however.

TractorData says serial # 14471 was the last tractor with the D-360, anything newer, higher serial number would have the Nuess D-358. Both engines are really good. A rebuild for a D-360 is cheaper than a D-358, but the D-358's seem to run longer between rebuilds.

Lots and lots of common parts between an 886 & the larger 86-series. Left as a 90-95 HP tractor an 886 will run a L-O-N-G time.

Thanks Dr. Evil. Good to know the serial number split between engines. I have heard nothing but good things about the "German motor"

Really? The dealer that sold ours with 20,000+ hours was asking over $15,000 and probably got over $13,000.

Uncle Mikes 886 bought new ran 20 years lost rear end at 9600 hours. Cousins 886 bought new same year ran 30 years then electrolysis set in on engine block. They also had 1466 and 1066. I'm more partial to the 66 series they ride better and are more serviceable. Any tractor 40 years old is a roll of the dice but then go price a new 90 hp tractor with ac and cab. Parts scrap value would be around $4000 on this tractor so financial risk is fairly low. Be critical of the clutch, shifters and torque amplifier when test driving it.

And Dealers usually ask a good deal more for their trade-ins and used/abused equipment. Never lived it, but seen it many times over. Buyer beware!
