ihc 304 gas motor question

i have a 304 gas motor from a scout. am rebuilding it to place in 1600 loadstar. i have noticed in rebuild kits that there is a difference in oil pumps between 1600 & scout hd oil pumps. what is this all about ? any other differences i should be aware of ?

I don't know about the oil pump. Might be due to different oil pan configuration due to clearance reasons. The thing I would be interested in is the pistons and heads. I don't remember the year but I believe it was right about early 70's when IH changed them to try to meet emisions regulations and made a real dog out of that good old 304.
