I have a 1943 farmall h that has a 10-38 firestone tire on it my question is when did they start using the decimal in the tire size it has about 1/2 tread and checked quite bad wondering if it could have been original ?

Thanks for any thoughts

I think '55 was the year the sizes were changed. 11.2x38 Is the modern equivalent of the 10-38. And it is possible it is original. However,I would bet it is the second.

I seen a 51 Super C, with the original tires on it, they were B.F. Goodrich's. They were checked, but they could easily go for another 10 years. I talked to the man that bought this tractor new, and it is still working on the same farm, I though i had done good with my 14.9 38's, they were bought new by my dad in 1964.

My dad bought a late serial number 400 new and it had 12 x 38 and not 13.6 x 38 Firestone tires. Of course who knows if tires were in the back of warehouse somewhere. I thought it was 1956 or 1957 as I have never seen a 450 IH or 720 Deer with old sizing

I was thinking in the 50's somewhere my self but wasn't sure every thing is nice and tight steering and gears and all metal looks good but hard to say if it come on there new i wonder what tire brand was on them new.

Thanks for the responses
