Farmall 230 project

In an earlier post, thanks from the help of the board I was able to identify my tractor as a 230.

I have since purchased the manuals for it.

I have also decided to tear it down the farthest I can without splitting it up and the sandblasting everything that will fit in my cabinet and wiring wheeling the rest and paint it.

One of the first repairs I will have to do is replace the rear axle gaskets and seals. It is leaking on the left side at the axle/differential gasket. I guess I should replace both sides while I have it torn down. I wanted to remove the trans cover to inspect it and replace the gasket and clean everything up good. This will also give me access to remove the axles.

I am wanting to start at the rear and work my way forward with gaskets and seals.

The engine rear seal seems to be holding up, but that might be a different story once I get it running.

Also the exhaust manifold has a rust hole, so that will need to be replaced.

About where I am at with it.

my rear axle seal on the left side was leaking also on my super C its a real easy job to do. I just replaced the outer seals and now no leaks. Your right about the rear oil seals on the motor; after i got Charlie up and running good his started leaking so i got the parts for both front and rear.. hows your clutch? Im looking at a clutch job too

good luck, keep us updated

I've got a 230 as well. Mine's a '57 (first year)...serial is 17xx J. What's yours? Mine runs like a top...did a few things to it to make me happy....pretty much is a barn queen now...I start it every 2 or 3 days just to keep it in good shape....2 pt. hitch with drawbar and a C20 2 bottom plow (with new points)...Not sure if I noticed... where are you? Well, this is where I am at now with the project. All new gaskets and seals to this point. Everything looked great inside.

The engine will go to the machine shop this weekend.

I am excited that I can soon start putting things back together instead of taking them apart....
