1466 pops out of reverse

My 1466 pops out of reverse. It will slip out of gear on both sides. I have adjusted the linkage so I don't think that is the problem. Will this require splitting the tractor or can anything be done out side?

You have to take the side plate off to decide how big a problem you have. Most of the time, you will feel a lot of play where the reverse fork is keyed to the shifting shaft. That can be repaired by taking top range transmission cover off. You may have a worn out or broken thrust washer between the gears or even worn into the rear housing. That is more difficult to repair.
