So got a call this morning form a guy who has this 584 and he wants me to look at the brakes and see what it will take to fix them. I do not have the I-T manual that cover that one but do have the one that covers the 684. So are the brakes on both models the same?? Any idea what I may find. He said it has a little bit of brakes if he pushes both pedals but if he wants to use the brake to help turn and only hits one he has no brake.
Thanks

yes same brakes, biggest thing is to make sure they are bleed correctly. Also the equalizing valve in brake set up can give some trouble

Hi Old, 584 and 684 have the same brakes.
74/84 Series Brake bleeding procedure from archives:

Hi JP, to bleed the brakes there is a bleeder screw on top of each rear axle, looks like a grease zerk.
Require clean bucket and 1/4 or 5/16 inch clear tubing that will fit over bleed screw nipple.
To bleed the brakes run the tractor until the Hytran hydraulic fluid reaches operating temperature.
Run engine at fast idle 1400-1600 RPM, block rear wheels.
1)With tubing connected to nipple on bleed screw and other end in clean bucket, loosen bleed screw and let hydraulic fluid drain until air bubble free, then close bleed screw. Repeat on other brake. Do not pump brakes while bleeding.
Top up hydraulic fluid with fluid caught in bucket, make sure transmission fluid level is full or over full. Also check for leaks by bottom of dash and along top of transmission cover. Brake lines run from under battery box along top of transmission to rear axles.
May have to repeat bleeding and if bleeding only lasts a few days then repost and I will give a procedure to diagnose if it is leaking seals in brake piston.

Hope this helps

Do you know if this info is in the I-T manual since I do have the one for the 684??? Thanks

before you bleed the brakes check the roll pins and keys in the pedals my dad had a 684 that the roll pin on the outer pedal use to work its way out
