I have an 1928 10-20 McCormick Deering on steel and was wanting to change it to rubber [ don't know much about these ], what does everyone think would be the best way to do it? look for wheels off a later model [ will they fit, are there any out there ]? would wheels off anything else fit? take the steel and cut them down [ are the steel wheel worth much ]? any suggestions? Thanks

Whatever you do, DON'T CUT DOWN THE STEEL WHEELS!!!

It was a common practice in the late 1930s and into the 1940s for the old steel wheeled tractors to have the steel wheels cut down and a rim welded to the spokes so that rubber tires could be used. There are still many of these type of wheels all around the country, so I think you would be able to find some without much trouble and they are generally considerably cheaper than steel wheels. Another option is to get a set of F&H round spoke wheels. The French & Hecht company made both steel wheels for various tractor companies as well as round spoke wheels for rubber tires. The very late model 10-20 came out on rubber tires from the factory, so your third option would be to find a set of those wheels.

As far as I know there are no other wheels that will fit on a 10-20 McCormick-Deering. You will have to find wheels off another 10-20 to mount onto yours. As long as you get rear wheels off another 10-20 with a serial number 69613 or higher, they will fit your 10-20. (rear wheels earlier than that used a single square key versus the later splined axle)

Front wheels off a 10-20 with serial number 44433 or higher will fit your 10-20.

10-20 rear wheels are totally different than Regular or F20 rear wheels and will NOT interchange. However, after looking through my parts books I see that Regular/F20 front wheels WILL fit on a 10-20.

Well thanks guys for the help, 350 dave looks like the front off a regular or F 20 will fit, Nebraska KirK was good enough to look that up for me, so I'll just keep a look out for some rims that may come up for sale, now that I know what I'm looking for, as I'm not in no big hurry for them, I wont be cutting mine up, I never like doing that to anything anyway.

In addition to Alderson's...

You could try Biewer's Tractor Salvage in Barnesville, MN (just google it).

And there's a Rusty Wheel Ranch or something similar - maybe someone here can supply the correct name.
