400 wide front axle question

A friend has a 400 with a wide front axle. The axle mounts to a bracket with sticks forward of the tractor, and the tie rod is out in front, like a whimpy bumper (has been bent by several small trees in the woods. Seems like it would put a lot of strain on the tractor to mount it that way.

Most of the other wide front 400's that I've seen has the axle directly under the steering post, with the tie rod behind the axle.

Is this an aftermarket? Put on wrong? Special purpose?

Just curious.........

Thanx !

Pete

I don't know about that model, but I think some were made so you could install them either way depending on which wheelbase you wanted.

You have an 'old style' wide front from an M.There is a "set back" plate to set the front directly under.BTW,at least you bent the tie rod instead of the grill! Maybe you should add a bumper/grill gard........

As Delta said, you have the old style wide front that was originally used on the M. The "correct" wide front for your 400 looks like this.
