Farmall M Steering U-Joint Replacement

Hey guys! Just picked up another M and the steering U-Joint is toast. Guy gave me the new U-Joint from IH but I've never had one apart...whats the easiest way to remove and replace? Thanks for the help!!

remove from tractor. then use hammer and vise to remove joint. then press together with vise.

If you dont have a torch it will still be there got to reove from the fixed end first then the other end will be esier.

who ever marrys her is the luckiest guy in the world.....if i saw her when i was young i would of went straight to steiners with ring....dewy

Unless its a early M with bolt together universal joint. No need to cut and drill shafts. Get universal joint 84355036 and install, should be under 25 bucks.

That's the part I have. Just was not sure how to get the old one apart.

Didn't want to cut the shaft and replace with a whole new unit if I don't have to.

C rings inside the yoke need to come off then its press apart or hammer. Little harder to remove some steering wheels but if you can and remove steering shaft from tractor it makes things better. Need to move cross so cups push to outside one at a time.

Dslater, would you happen to know if that u joint that you mentioned, will fit a 460? I thought you had to buy a whole shaft and joint assembly to get the u joint. Thanks, Hugh

Watch a YouTube video. I never did one either, but the method sounds exactly the same as u joints on a truck.

I thought you were selling all your tractors, not buying more.

I sold a bunch of them...still buying and selling as I find good deals
though. This M will go to my sister once I get a few things fixed on
it.

Yes M tractors serial # 109891 and up used joint 350254R91 or optional # 357439R91 the same numbers were used on a farmall 460. Newest case number to replace them is supposed to be the number I posted.
