most desirable sm or smta

Ok guys which tractor is the most desirable to own, the sm or the smta and why? It seams to me that there are a lot more sm out there but which one would you like to have and which one would be worth the most.
Thanks,

Mike

There was quite a SMTA and a 1206 craze, the last 8-10 yrs,I think its still there but the price has cooled somewhat.Proabley the SMTA, becausse it was the first that was TA and live PTO, which IH needed in the market.

Would depend on personal preference for the most part and if comparing regular gas models of both. For a using tractor or about half produced compared to a SM I would go with the SMTA with IPTO. For a fun tractor to show or pull a SM tractor is a little more simple than the SMTA. Harder to find a 54 model SMD or SM than a SMTA and I would get one of those before the SMTA unless it was a SMDTA and I had the money to spend or want to spend. I'm not into high crops but if you want rare some models of both are.

Go with the standard model. A super wd6 tub frame.
I love the low wide stance and big round fenders.just
my 2 cents since someone asked.

Both are good tractors. The SMTA has the TA and LPTO,makeing it a bit handier to acctually farm with. They are also more
'collectable'.Hence,more 'valuable'. I have owned a Super M for over 35 years.He's my baby,named him Malcom.He has done every
imaginable farm job.If someone offered to trade me a freshly restored SMTA for Malcom,I would NOT trade him off.I'll probably be
buried on him...So,Which is better? Tossup, matter of personal preference.

the Torque Amplifier model is definitely worth more than a plain super. the wide front models are a plus to collectors also. the
less built of a model increases the price. the diesel model is worth more than the gas model, hi-clearance model adds to the
price also.

This is a NO BRAINIER The S/MTA . It has everything you could ever want in a old plain tractor it has live Hyd. , it has live PTO , it has the power to do what ever you want (with in reason ) . It will pull a 3x16 plow all day long , it will pull a 12 foot disc with duals all day long it will pull a 125-150 bushel manuar spreader it will pull a small forage harvester all day long it will handle a small round baler just fine it will handle a square baler with wagon behind it . It can be up graded to a fast hitch and power steering it will handle a four row planter . The ONLY negative about a S/MTA is the fact that it is NOT a fuel squeezer . If you are going to WORK IT then first thing in the morning you FILL it with gas say around 8 A M and by the time noon coming around ya had best be headed for the dinner table and the fuel tank and then your good to go till 5 and do it all over again . They will eat five gallon and hour easy when working them .

I love my SMTA. I have worked it hard every year for about 12 years now. I would have to say 2 gallons per hour is the most I have seen it use.

My grandpa's Super M still
sets in the barn where he
last parked it before he
passed away 4 years ago. I
walk by it all the time to
get the 674 out. I was going
to get it running one day,
then saw the radiator core
had corroded away to nothing,
was probably. Was probably
that way when my grandpa was
still alive, he didn't have
much extra money and just did
what he could to get by with.
I think I have a radiator for
it over at the other farm,
but I usually go over there
for other stuff and it slips
my mind. I'll get it going
someday, but it's about as
useful as our H, not very, so
it probably won't get used
for much or anything

I have a 49 M that has all of the super M goodies
and also has power steering. It gets used a lot. I
love to grind feed with it, so that's what about half of
its hours are doing. With the size of that engine,
that's about all of the PTO work I've got for it around
here. Everything other implement is for the 130 plus
HP tractors. It doesn't matter that it doesn't have
live PTO - it stands still to grind anyway. It has been
a little while but I have used it on the 24 T baler. I do
enjoy baling with it as well, but I don't find the PTO
a limit there either. Not with squares at least.

That narrow front is the cat's meow for backing the
loaded grinder up to hog feeders and feed wagons.
I don't think I could use a wide front anymore.

SMTA is worth more as mentioned. For farm work its more usefull. For tractor pulls I would go with a SM. There isnt much use for a T/A in tractor pulls, not a transfer sled anyways.
