farmall 400 clutch pedal bushing

I have had Pilot Knob Restorations do a couple of my clutch and brake pedals, but most any good machine shop can do it as well and you'll save on the shipping.

i have heard that you can use the bushing from a 560 connecting rod wrist pin. the machine shop will bore the pedal housing to fit. you would need both the shaft and pedal housing to get them reamed to fit. i have not got around to trying it yet.

The pedal will need to be bored to a standard larger size, then bushing is pressed in and the grease hole is drilled and a rig shaped groove is cut in the bushing to bring the grease around the bushing. The bushing is reamed to the shaft size. The shaft may need to be either built up and turned down to original, or the shaft can be reduced in diameter to a standard undersize. Jim

This is good advice, but it won't work to have the worn shaft turned down smaller as the arm for the brake linkage has to clamp on the end of the shaft after the clutch pedal has been installed.

I have had to repair a couple of clutch pedals I had a machine shop bore the pedals and install bushings. I them make a new shaft for the one tractor and the other I just welded it up and turned it back down in my lathe.

I got a new shaft with seals and woodruf keys for around 50-60 bucks from a guy on ebay and had the machine shop bore and size the pedal to the new shaft for 40 bucks, WOW! just like brand new. Just make sure you get the correct shaft a 400-450 has a different keyway placement than a M.
