super MTA s/n

I'm looking at a super MTA on internet and I ask to see the s/n on the tractor, he sent me a picture of the tag and it only had 82256 s stamp on the tag. It look like the tag had been sanded and this was the only thing on the tag. Is there any way you can look at pictures of the tractor to tell if it's a real smta? Does this number tell me anything?

Thanks,

Mike

According to the SN list on the left of this page,it is a 1954 model.Surest way to tell if it's a 'real' SMTA is to look for the
TA and LPTO levers.

it automatically is a 1954, as that is the only year they were built towards end of production. that is how my tag is also, and the # is 74726 s..
in the W6 version there was only 3005 tractors with the TA. at end of production. which was replaced with the 400.

also in the W6 version the TA'S start at serial # 10,000. but not sure in the farmall model.

Can't remember the last time I saw a SMTA serial plate that wasn't like that unless they put a new replacement tag on. Yes its a SMTA serial number.

no, its not sand blasted. mine is completely original and the tag is shiny . just need to see that it has the TA lever and linkages on it. it would have live pto, if it has one. as could come without one. the tractor its self is about 6" longer too that makes up for the ta.

Well buckman said it looked like it was sanded,If they had hand sanded the tractor i am sure he would of not sanded it that way. I got a[1942] 55xxx serial number M i can read all the printed info on that.

On 'Classic view' there is a list of 'links'.Left side of page. Look under "Reseacersh&Info". Clik on serial numbers.

Well that one is newer them mine as mine is S/N 78228 and is also a Hosier tractor bought June 27 1990 at Stilesville In. for 1650 bucks and i am the second owner . when bought two of the three lites worked it charged and ran great , T/A was good tires were fair and it had what was left of the org. paint and what was left of the org. seat and a ugly loader and blade and covered on hog manuar . It had all the latest M &W updates done to it ten years before i bought it and turns out 59 and change H. P. Repairs i have done to it since i bought it are new cam , lifters and gears tires and brakes and a paint job as soon as it got here. and two years ago i switched it over to 12 volts. and we have run it on the silage blower a couple times blowing silage up a 80x20 silo . Would i sell it NOPE , back when the pait was all new and shinny i turned down 10 grand for it . She has won her share of first place trophys in the 6500-7500 pound class in dead weight pulling ' and has been featured in the 94 Red power Video.

well yes it will have disc brakes as all super models. the very last straight M's will have disc brakes also. its not some thing that distinguishes a super M with a TA. its the longer wheel base and ta lever and serial #'s that tell the story.
